Navigating Autism as a Foster Parent

Caring for a child with Autism as a foster parent comes with unique challenges, but the right knowledge and support can make all the difference. This session is designed to equip foster parents with the tools and understanding needed to navigate an Autism diagnosis and provide the best possible care.

In this session, foster parents will learn how to:

• Identify the steps to obtain an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis
• Recognize the differences between trauma-based or neglect-based behaviors and Autism behaviors
• Apply practical strategies for managing challenging behaviors at home
• Understand how Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services can support a child’s development
• Navigate the step-by-step process of accessing ABA services
